I have made no secret about it, I have a sweet tooth like no one would believe. There are literally very few desserts I haven’t liked, and oh man, if you are interested, this little place I stumbled into called “The Yard” Milkshake Bar completely brings it in terms of a filling after hours dessert, or hey, if you want to eat it by itself, I am sure that could be arranged too!
You may have seen “The Yard” featured on the hit ABC series “Shark Tank” as they were able to come to an business agreement with shark Mark Cuban.
There are only about seven locations currently throughout the entire United States. Panama City Beach, Florida; Austin, Texas; Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Fairhope, Alabama; D’Iberville, Mississippi; Gulf Shores, Alabama and one coming in Atlanta this spring.
My sons and I went to the Hattieburg, Mississippi franchise and, at first, it struck me as an old school ice cream parlor. As you come in you see the coolers like you would spot at the ice cream studio and those, along with the display areas and the seating area, are set in a dark wood finish with some antique-y/country farm vibe going on (the sink to wash your cup out is a big washtub). I’ll post some of our pictures to the Facebook page so you can see them there.
The staff were amazing answering a truckload of questions about everything and getting to know what it was they do and how they do it-it was great visiting a bit with them as well.
We elected to go with the design your own versions of shakes and there was a treasure trove of options from the ice creams, to toppings, and the mixes, easily there were several hundred possible combinations of you could make on top of the set ones. You have two size options when it comes to the milkshakes too. Either a pint or a quart. Since this was our first time, we opted to go with the pint size-turns out it was a wise decision, only one of us actually finished them-ha!
20/20 hindsight we should have shared ours, they were a bit big for all of us, but it was fun being able to try different flavor combinations and seeing the creativity we could come up with.
They had hot cinnamon rolls and other options too that we didn’t take advantage of so I expect another trip to The Yard is in our future down the road.
