A great blend in Charleston, South Carolina

Hello HITW friends,
Earlier this summer we had a great opportunity to trip over to Charleston, South Carolina, and I was completely taken with the variety of experiences, enjoying the people-watching (so to speak) and the fabulous food amongst other things!

From the natural elements of the city to the mix of Revolutionary War era architecture, if you are looking to just “sightsee” there is plenty of that and then some.  The colonial era, 1800 era churches are all throughout the downtown area near High Street too and I was surprised to see two signers of the constitution buried in one of those church cemeteries.

As a harbor community, you can take advantage of water, and more water activities.  Eco-tourism is a big part of the industry there. With tours up the river in addition to the harbor-related tours and water sports you will see quite a bit of activity in and around the water areas. Food options are unbelievable as well. Steakhouses, Seafood, Japanese Steak Houses, and more. Fusion restaurants are plentiful as well. Gourmet Ice Cream? Cookies? Yeah, that’s here too!

One of the other fun aspects was seeing the variety of people. We had the good fortune of being there during a festival in the park downtown near the College. People of every walk of life, ages, backgrounds, you name it. You know what? They were all interacting and having a great time.  I was surprised to with the industrial side of Charleston as well.  The airline industry investment in Charleston is huge. I guess I had been under a rock.

Overall, a great spring or early fall road trip opportunity in my eyes, depends on when you want to take it!
