Hello friends of Hole In The Wall,
Well, like many of you, we have finally had our turn with the resident buggy buddy that has been bothering all of us now for a little over a year. This past month, we been grappling with the Covid. Thankfully, we have been blessed with being on the mild end, and are getting back on track. Realizing that we have been blessed and lucky that it could have been conceivably worse we wanted to kick it in to gear a bit and get back rolling as best we can.
We have been learning through other means some of the different platform dynamics we should have been using here. Expect to see some of those deployed in the future. With this time to honestly dig in and learn, one of the things we have been thinking about is, from a travel sense, how has this past year impacted you? What have you done different? What have you taken advantage of? What has gotten you bummed out? I think for us, we have adjusted several different ways.
More long weekends vs. big stays
We noticed after some reflection, that our longer trips tended to be more of a resort-y or “Destination getaway” type travel. That isn’t necessarily what we needed though. So we switched our strategy to more longer weekends, looking at Thursday through Sunday getaways. The level of preparation went down, to some extent, and we were able to be a bit more spontaneous than we had in recent years.
What have we missed locally that maybe we need to take advantage of?
Something I used to get very discouraged about where the things we didn’t take advantage of in or near where we lived. Draw a line radius around where you live and are willing to travel 60 miles is roughly 1 hour, figure out how many hours you would be willing to go, one way and see what you may find within the radius of your home. You mayyyyy find that you are surprised a bit.
Think about what kind of experience you want to have on your trip
What type of vacation do you want to have? What are the “little” things you can do that maybe can help you add to it? Or, conversely, things you can avoid that may subtract from it.
Part of travel, is experiencing local too.
If you can, experience local where you can. Food, stories, experiences, and see how you can engross yourself where ever you may want to go.
I am not saying in the least that we won’t take weeks at a time, or go to big resort locations, etc. etc. but what I am saying is expand your horizons. It’s human nature that we get blinders on about different things, we get into our patterns, and “ruts” with things. How much are we missing though? What are we not benefiting from or what are we missing because we just don’t take that extra step? You may find that you are missing a lot.
Have a good week folks, we’ll talk to you soon.
