It is often a bone of contention in our family about the pros and cons of eating out versus eating in on extended vacations or traveling that we may do. It usually produces a few weeks of debate then there is some sort of compromise that some things will be eaten in and some will be eating out. Usually, we will air on the side of eating in for breakfast, and occasionally lunch, and then will eat out mostly for dinners. However, dependent on where we were, we may have changed that up a bit too. Like many, budget/finance, activities, or general “attitude” will often dictate that along the way for us.
I would submit to you though that food has the ability to tell a great deal about the people and the area that you travel too. From history of the area, to public interest, food can tell a significant part of your travel story. If you disagree, I cite the Food Network show Unwrapped that aired for about 10 years from 2001-2011. The back story on some of the most notable foods has always been interesting to me and seeing the impact on the local story has been interesting too. I hope that Alfonso Ribero (sp?) can make the reboot of this show take off.
So there you have the first few posts we will be talking about in this blog! Food and restaurant spots around the country that we have had the opportunity to go to and the experiences that we have had.
What about you? What have you experienced in the different foods of the different areas you travel too?
